Google declares that the debate over green and blue bubbles is “ridiculous and tiresome.”

Today’s Made By Google event was Full of interesting adsFrom the new Pixel 10 lineup and Pixel Watch 4 to amazing AI offerings.

During the event (which, oddly enough, was hosted by Jimmy Fallon), Google’s VP of Marketing Adrienne Lofton also announced that the debate over green bubbles versus blue bubbles is “over.”

The comments came during a clip in which Lofton and Fallon showed off the new Pixel 10 lineup. Lofton asked Fallon if he knew what RCS was, and he replied that he had no idea.

Here’s the full reaction (which you can also watch at Complete keyword On YouTube):

Lofton: Have you ever heard of RCS?

Fallon:RCS? No, I don’t know RCS.

Lofton: That’s okay, most people don’t do that. RCS stands for Rich Communications Services. You don’t even need to remember this name. RCS simply means that there is now one text standard for everyone. What you should know is that Android has been using RCS for many years, but Apple has recently adopted it as well.

So what does that mean? This means that now when you chat with your friends on iFriends, you can say goodbye to blurry photos and videos, you can interact with all your cute emojis on text messages, and finally, the group chat is for the entire group.

Fallon:So can we stop talking about green texts versus blue texts?

Lofton: Yes. Above all, I will say that, personally, the green/blue bubble battle is silly and tired, and at Google we’re done with that conversation. Inside our company, whether it’s Google, Android or Pixel, we believe technology is at its best when it brings people together, no matter what brand of phone they hold in their hands. We hope that the phone in your hands is a Pixel.

Lofton is of course referring to Apple’s decision to adopt RCS as part of iOS 18 last year. Prior to this announcement, Google and others had made multiple criticisms of Apple over its products Lack of RCS support.

On iPhone, iPad, and Mac, RCS messages stay green, while iMessages stay blue. I think we can all agree that it’s a good thing that Apple is embracing RCS, but the obsession with green bubbles versus blue bubbles has always seemed like an obsession. One-sided installation. After all, Google Samsung has launched multiple advertising campaigns focusing on the color of text bubbles.

Is the blue vs. green bubble battle officially over? Was it a real battle at first? Let us know in the comments.
