We’re one day closer to Apple officially announcing the iPhone 17 Pro, and Majin Bu has another rumor about something that could happen. This time the change ended up being in the iPhone 17 Pro’s antenna system…
Quoting a source, Majin Bu says Apple will reposition the antenna system About the giant new camera bar on the back of the iPhone 17 Pro:
According to my source, Apple is ready to introduce a major architectural change in the iPhone 17 Pro: repositioning the antennas around the rear camera module. This design choice mirrors the approach used in the Apple Watch Ultra, where antennas are strategically integrated to maximize reception and signal stability.
As he points out, the design will be similar to the antenna system used in the multi-band antenna system used in… Apple Watch Ultra. The difference, of course, is that the iPhone 17 Pro’s camera module is at least two screens larger than the Apple Watch Ultra.
Majin Bu claims that one of the reasons for this change is that the new placement is vulnerable to signal blocking and interference. There is some logic as we hold our iPhone from below and not above the camera system.
According to Majin Bu, Apple is also making this change to improve how the antenna’s electromagnetic energy is distributed in space. In conventional designs, the user’s grip and nearby metal parts can distort this radiation pattern and limit coverage.
He says that by placing antennas around the camera module, Apple achieves a more uniform spread of the main lobe, reduces shadow areas in the vertical and diagonal directions, and improves efficiency in signal-dense environments such as cities or complex indoor spaces.
This level of detail suggests that it’s not just speculation, and that Majin Bu has a good track record.
We expect Apple to officially unveil the iPhone 17 Pro just four weeks from tomorrow, and an event confirming that date will likely be announced later this month.
