When Apple unveils the iPhone 17 lineup next month, it looks like we’ll also see a new version of Apple’s first-party protective cases as well. If the latest rumors are true, the iPhone 17 lineup of cases will take a design cue from AirPods Pro 2 Charging status.
It appears that Apple is planning to add support for the optional lanyard loop to its official iPhone 17 cases. This is according to leakers Majin Bu and DuanRui.
Apple already includes a similar lanyard loop hole in the AirPods Pro 2 charging case. The rumored lanyard loop hole in the iPhone 17 case design looks similar.
First, DuanRui shared this post on the The translation from Chinese to English says: “The official phone case for the iPhone 17 Pro series will have two additional lanyard holes at the bottom.”
Separately, Majin Buu Published a blog post Which demonstrates the so-called liquid silicone case design. Majin Bu echoes the claim that Apple plans to support optional lanyard accessories in its iPhone 17 case lineup this year. The post also shows what might be the new design of Apple’s silicone case, though it’s always possible that Apple could use that design on a Beats-branded case instead.

This trend pushes the iPhone into dedicated camera territory. Point-and-shoot cameras usually come with a lanyard out of the box to help you avoid dropping and losing your camera while shooting. Apple has already added a dedicated camera control to the iPhone, essentially placing the shutter button where you’d expect it.
Years ago, Apple had a more innovative solution with the iPod touch, but a later revision of the iPod touch removed the built-in retractable lanyard button.
What do you think? Should Apple add a lanyard loop slot on its first-party iPhone cases? Both leakers credibly indicated that FineWoven cases had existed in previous years, so there is reason to trust their findings.

Third-party iPhone cases already provide similar functionality to existing iPhones, e.g Fantastic Bellroy Project caseBut the move would be a first for an Apple-branded case — even if the cord is sold separately, as is the case with the AirPods Pro 2 charging case.
