The likely date of the iPhone 17 event is now the date of the rumored iPhone 17 event. No surprises there. But when should we expect Apple to actually confirm the reveal date for its next big product, and what should you make of event invitation “leaks” on social media?
The iPhone 17 event is on schedule
With a few exceptions, Apple typically announces new major iPhone models in the second week of September each year. This year appears to be following that pattern with an event rumored to take place on Tuesday, September 9. If the pattern continues, we should expect iPhone 17 pre-orders to go live on Friday, September 12, and for the first device to reach customers a week later on Friday, September 19.
So far there are no rumors about any specific iPhone 17 model being delayed, but there is certainly precedent for some models to ship later than previous years. For example, the iPhone In other years, Apple releases newer versions in October. It just depends on production timelines.
Right now, we expect four new iPhones to be unveiled in September: iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max, and the latest model with the iPhone 17 Air.
When will Apple make it official?
While we expect Apple to already announce the new iPhone lineup next month, we can likely expect an announcement about the event itself later this month. Here are some recent iPhone event dates and event announcement dates to provide context:
| model | Event announcement | Event date | Delta |
| iPhone 16 | Monday 26 August | Monday 9 September | 14 days |
| iPhone 15 | Tuesday 29 August | Tuesday 12 September | 14 days |
| iPhone 14 | Wednesday 24 August | Wednesday 7 September | 14 days |
| iPhone 13 | Tuesday 7 September | Tuesday 14 September | 7 days |
| iPhone 12 | Tuesday 6 October | Tuesday 13 October | 7 days |
| iPhone 11 | Thursday 29 August | Tuesday 10 September | 12 days |
As you can see, things are getting weird around the iPhone 12 and iPhone 13, but 2020 and 2021 have been tough years to plan for, considering the global pandemic and everything.
Apple still prefers Tuesdays for event announcements and event dates. For the past three years, Apple has provided a fixed two-week window between announcing an iPhone event and holding an iPhone event.
For these reasons, we can probably expect Apple to officially announce things this year on Tuesday, August 26. And that’s just three weeks from today. Of course, the event date is just rumors at the moment, and event announcement speculation is based on the historical pattern. This means that everything is still up in the air at the moment, but we should see a clever logo for the event probably later this month.
As of today, we may have 12 days before the event invite actually goes live. Meanwhile, the fake annual invitation to the event has already gone viral.
If Apple accidentally leaked an invitation, no one would believe it after years of these fake, attention-seeking invitations.
