We are about a month away from the unveiling of Apple’s new iPhone 17 lineup. But today a New report from Electric Buzz about a big screen upgrade in the works for a future iPhone model.
Tandem OLED of the M4 iPad Pro is in future iPhone plans
Last year, when the M4 iPad Pro launched, it came with Apple’s first Ultra Retina XDR display. Apple called it “the world’s most advanced display.”
Now, it looks like the tandem OLED technology that powers this advancement could be brought to the iPhone next.
Electric Reports Apple is in discussions with both LG and Samsung about producing tandem OLED displays for the future iPhone.
Deals with Apple’s display partners have yet to be finalized, but Apple has reportedly set a two-year timeline for the mass production plan. As a result, the first tandem OLED iPhone is not expected to ship before 2028.
What benefit can the Ultra Retina XDR display provide?
Here’s Apple describing the technology On M4 iPad Pro:
The Ultra Retina XDR display features advanced Tandem OLED technology that uses two OLED panels and combines light from both to deliver exceptional full-screen brightness. The new iPad Pro supports an incredible 1,000 nits of brightness for SDR and HDR content, and 1,600 nits of brightness for HDR content. No other device of its kind provides this level of extreme dynamic range. Tandem OLED technology enables sub-millisecond control over the color and luminance of each pixel, taking XDR resolution further than ever before. Highlights in photos and video appear brighter, and there’s more detail in shadows and low light than ever before on iPad, all while delivering greater responsiveness to moving content.
So there are several core strengths of this advanced display technology:
- brightness
- Color accuracy
- Response
While current iPhone displays are already strong in all of these areas, tandem OLED will enable Apple to take the game even further.
Your iPhone display can be brighter, with more vibrant, detailed and smoother colors than ever before.
