Introducing iPhone Pocket: a beautiful way to wear and carry your iPhone
Created as a collaboration between ISSEY MIYAKE and Apple, iPhone Pocket features a unique 3D woven construction designed to fit any iPhone
ISSEY MIYAKE and Apple today unveiled the iPhone Pocket. Inspired by the concept of a ‘piece of cloth’, its unique 3D knitted body is designed to fit any iPhone as well as all pocketable items. Starting Friday, November 14, it will be available at select Apple Store locations and on apple.com in France, Greater China, Italy, Japan, Singapore, South Korea, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
iPhone Pocket features an open, ribbed body with original pleats designed by ISSEY MIYAKE. Inspired by the idea of creating an additional pocket, its minimalist design completely surrounds the iPhone, expanding to fit more of the user’s everyday items. When extended, the open fabric subtly reveals its contents and allows users to peek at their iPhone’s screen. The iPhone Pocket can be worn in several ways – held in the hand, strapped on bags or worn directly on the body. The short belt design features a fun color palette and is available in eight colors, and the long belt design comes in three colors.
“The design of the iPhone Pocket reflects the relationship between iPhone and its user, keeping in mind that an Apple product is designed to be universal in aesthetics and versatile in use,” said Yoshiyuki Miyamai, Design Director of MIYAKE DESIGN STUDIO. “iPhone Pocket explores the concept of ‘the joy of wearing iPhone your way.’ The simplicity of its design reflects what we practice at ISSEY MIYAKE – the idea of leaving things less defined to allow for possibilities and personal interpretation.
“Apple and ISSEY MIYAKE share a design approach that celebrates craftsmanship, simplicity and joy,” said Molly Anderson, vice president of Industrial Design at Apple. “This smart additional pocket embodies those ideas and is a natural companion to our products. The iPhone Pocket’s color palette was intentionally designed to mix and match with all of our iPhone models and colors — allowing users to create their own personalized combination. Its distinctive silhouette provides a beautiful new way to carry iPhone, AirPods, and favorite everyday items.”
A piece of cloth
Manufactured in Japan, iPhone Pocket features a unique 3D knitted construction as a result of the research and development conducted at ISSEY MIYAKE. The design was inspired by the “piece of cloth” concept and reinterprets the everyday use of the brand’s signature pleated garments. iPhone Pocket was developed and designed in close collaboration with Apple Design Studio, which provided insight into design and production throughout.
