iPhone 16e Speed Test Results: Apple’s C1 Modem Rivals Qualcomm Snapdragon X71 in 5G Performance

Ookla’s iPhone 16e Speed Test: Apple’s C1 Modem vs Qualcomm Snapdragon X71

Network intelligence firm Ookla, the creator of Speedtest, has released the results of its second iPhone 16e 5G speed test, and the findings are big news for Apple fans.

The iPhone 16e is powered by Apple’s custom-built C1 modem, while the standard iPhone 16 uses Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X71 modem. According to Ookla’s report, the two devices delivered very similar 5G performance across most global markets.

📊 Test Highlights:

  • In the U.S. on T-Mobile’s network, the iPhone 16 achieved a median 5G download speed of 317 Mbps, while the iPhone 16e recorded 252 Mbps.
  • On a Spanish carrier, the iPhone 16e actually came out ahead, with 139 Mbps compared to the iPhone 16’s 110 Mbps.

Overall, Ookla concluded that the iPhone 16e’s 5G performance is “comparable” to the iPhone 16, reinforcing its earlier March results.

For users, this is clear proof that Apple’s first in-house 5G modem is no slouch. And with Apple’s special event scheduled for tomorrow, anticipation is building for the launch of the ultra-thin iPhone 17 Air, which is also expected to feature the new C1 modem.
