New colors

The A19 chip will give the iPhone 17 better performance. The new features are largely focused on increasing AI capabilities: new neural accelerators will significantly improve the performance of machine learning and AI tasks. Apple says it will deliver “MacBook Pro levels” of power. The A19 also features increased memory bandwidth, though Apple didn’t specify how much. Finally, things like gaming will be improved, with Apple saying the A19’s GPU features 20% better performance compared to the A18.
Improved battery life and charging
According to Apple’s tests, the iPhone 17 is set to bring significant increases in battery life. Here’s how it compares to iPhone 16:

- Up to 27 hours of streaming video playback, up from 18 hours
iPhone 17 also offers improved performance compared to iPhone 16 Plus:

New 48MP Ultra Wide Fusion Camera

Brand new Center Stage front camera
One of the key features of the new iPhone range is the all-new Center Stage front camera. This camera now uses a square image sensor, which means you can switch between portraits and landscape photos without having to rotate the phone. The sensor is now also 18MP, so your photos will always be high-resolution.
The square sensor and higher resolution enable Center Stage on iPhone for the first time. As on the iPad, this means the camera will automatically adjust the frame to keep you visible during a FaceTime or other video call. But Center Stage also works when taking selfies: the camera will automatically adjust the frame and switch between portrait and landscape mode depending on the person in the frame. When recording a video, it will also be super stable, similar to the action mode found on the rear camera.
Finally, a new dual capture mode lets you record video on both the front and rear cameras at the same time.
New N1 wireless networking chip
With the iPhone 17, Apple introduced its first in-house wireless chip. In addition to improved overall wireless performance and reliability of features that rely on this chip (like Personal Hotspot and AirDrop), this new iPhone 17 chip now has Bluetooth 6.

Physical size and thickness
The dimensions of the iPhone 17 have changed slightly compared to it iPhone 16. First, it’s a little heavier and thicker:

The iPhone 17 is also a little longer but a little narrower than it is iPhone 16:

Pricing and availability
The big news here is that the iPhone 17 now starts with 256GB of storage for the same starting price of $799. Last year, this would have cost $899. The 512GB option is also now less expensive, going for $999 instead of $1,099.
Unlike the past three generations, there’s no iPhone 17 Plus this year.
