Apple may be preparing to shake up the laptop market with an all-new, affordable MacBook priced as low as $599, according to fresh reports from Asia. If true, this would mark Apple’s first major entry into the budget laptop category — potentially launching later this year or in early 2026.

A MacBook Powered by an iPhone Chip

The rumor mill first started spinning in June, when analyst Ming-Chi Kuo revealed Apple’s plans for a “more affordable” 13-inch MacBook aimed at competing directly with Chromebooks. What makes this device particularly interesting is its reported use of the A18 Pro chip, the same processor that debuted in the iPhone 16 Pro.

This would be the first Mac to run on an iPhone-class chip, rather than the M-series chips found in current Mac models. While M-series processors offer more cores, higher memory support, and advanced display capabilities, the A18 Pro could help drastically cut costs — without sacrificing the everyday performance most casual users need.

Launch Timeline and Production Details

Reports suggest that Apple plans to begin component production by late Q3 2025, with final assembly at Quanta’s facilities in Q4. If all goes smoothly, the MacBook could hit store shelves in late 2025 or early 2026.

The new model is expected to feature a 12.9-inch display — slightly smaller than the 13.6-inch MacBook Air — and come in Silver, Blue, Pink, and Yellow color options. Annual shipments could reach 5–7 million units, potentially increasing Apple’s overall MacBook sales by 30%–40%.

Affordable, But With Trade-Offs

One limitation worth noting: the A18 Pro chip does not support Thunderbolt, meaning the laptop will likely include standard USB-C ports instead. However, for buyers prioritizing price over pro-level connectivity, this trade-off might be insignificant.

If Apple does deliver on this $599 MacBook, it could open the doors for millions of new users — from students to budget-conscious professionals — who’ve long admired MacBooks but found them out of reach.
